Minnesota MATHCOUNTS is happy to announce a change that means more teams will be able to participate in the 2011 State Competition.
Currently, each of the 12 chapters can send one or two teams to State, depending on how many teams register in the chapter. For example, chapters with nine or fewer teams can send one team to State, those that have 10 or more teams can send two teams, those with 20 or more teams can send four.
This year, MATHCOUNTS is instituting a Wild Card procedure so one additional team will be eligible to go to the State Meet.
Here's how it will work: After all the chapter competitions are completed, chapters will submit the individual scores for the team that would have gone to state next from each chapter (in some cases the second place team, in other chapters the third place, etc.). These will be on all of the questions on the Sprint, Target and Team Rounds.
The results from all of those teams will be put into the scoring program and the team with the highest score after tiebreakers will earn a trip to the State competition.
There's still time to register for your chapter competition. For more information on late registration, email or call Katie Jamieson, 651-457-2347 or kjamieson@mnspe.org
